  1. Garrantued winning against overwhelming odds comes from returning God’s portion of 10%. Abram returned the Lord’s tithe which insured his winning when going into battle. Thus entitling him to the financial rewards from going into battle and winning.

I believe this has more to Abram winning then his praying about it. Like you said “actions are what get the job done”.

    1. Agreed that actions are what get the job done and, Abram showing the faith in God to return his 10% were vital. I would say that they return was a faithful thank you to God for the victory as opposed to the cause of the victory. Chronologically, the tithe came after the victory, and we see in the previous chapter that Abram was already blessed with great wealth before the events of Chapter 14.

      Great discussion!

      1. So you believe that is the first time Abram tithed?

In Malachi 3-11 God tells us, we will be victorious if we bring the tithe. This leads me to believe that Abram’s victory against overwhelming odds came from God’s hand, because Abram gave the tithe thus insuring God’s protection.

        Malachi 3 9-11

9 Ye are cursed with the curse; for ye rob me, even this whole nation.

10 Bring ye the whole tithe into the store-house, that there may be food in my house, and prove me now herewith, saith Jehovah of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast its fruit before the time in the field, saith Jehovah of hosts.

        1. Abram well may have tithed before then. Bible does not tell us every single thing. However, this is the type of thing that the Bible usually does mention. Not only was the the first mention of tithing, but it is also over 400 years before tithing was instituted by God. I agree with you 100% on the benefits of tithing. God calls us to do it and there is no way to describe the work that God will do in you and for you when you tithe.

It is interesting that tithing is the only thing that God calls us to test him on. He will bless us when we tithe. It wont always be the way we think it will be. His ways are not our ways. Proverbs tells us to lean not on our own understanding but in all things seek the Lord’s will. (Proverbs 3:5-6) but the fact is that he will bless us if we prove faithful to him.
